Weird Watermelons

Ah, my first weird post! After days and days of posting mundane posts, I can finally move on to the weird. Better not waste any time.And to make this paragraph longer, I will now commence putting a very long smiley face. :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

That's better. Now moving on. Read the title. Yes, you heard me. Now, some of you may be thinking, "Ah, yes,I've heard about those." and the others " What in the name of Pete is that?" And now I'm thinking "Who IS Pete?" But never mind that. We shall now start talking about the one and only.....Weird Watermelon!!!!


Shoppers in Japan were amazed and amused at the watermelons that some stands sell. It was normal, except for the fact that they were SQUARE. Why did they create this? Many people have a hard time stacking them, keeping them in refrigerators,and cutting them because they kept rolling around. But a farmer from the south-western island of Shikoku solved the problem. He thought of growing cuboid-shaped watermelons.


The plan was simple:Grow the melons in box shaped glasses. Then,the fruit will naturally assume the shape of the glass.And, voila! Square Watermelons!! But that's not all. There are now heart shaped watermelons ,pyramid shaped melons, and even melons with faces!


I would love to buy one of those, but considering the place where it can be bought and the price ( 10,000 yen, equivalent to about $83), it will be maybe 8-10 years before I can buy those. But I hope that someday, I can buy and taste it. (Probably tastes like any other watermelon.)
